The UPC finally came into force on 1 June 2023.
There is a wealth of high quality information available and we won't repeat it.
From the EPO EPO - Unitary Patent
The UPC will provide a central enforcement court for patents for the contracting states, which do not include the UK. Validation in multiple countries will become cheaper but with some ties for example renewal must be for all countries for the future life of the patent. There are decisions to make and you may wish to opt out your EP patents to avoid central revocation. EPO Oppositions become more important to mitigate threats. We could go on but beyond this a friendly chat about your specific circumstances makes most sense.
Our founder is almost unique in Europe in that he is both a qualified UK and UP litigator who has handled multi-million pound litigation in the UK High Court and is also an EPO Opposition expert. We also have German litigators on hand. Our team includes several who have worked at the highest levels of major IP departments. So we can advise and handle your complex European enforcement and pre-emptive defensive strategy, and can give you friendly experienced guidance from people who have actually been there.
If you still read books, our founder was asked to contribute a chapter on the UPC strategic considerations which you can read here Winning with IP: Managing intellectual property today: Amazon.co.uk: Jolly, Adam: 9781739864026: Books
